Continued Progress

March 19th, 2009

Upon returning home,  I decided it was time to start putting my architectural training to good use. Dad had taken care of all the legal stuff after Mom died and all of Mom’s financial assets, including her inheritance from Grandma, was kept in a trust fund for me until after graduation. I had been drawing up plans for a new house ever since I was a teen, and once I had the money to make my dreams a reality, my family home was transformed into a palace that would have made Grandma proud.

It was difficult fitting a decent size house on such a small lot so close to the beach, but I’m really pleased with the results of my efforts. The pond that Grandma so loved to fish from was left untouched in the front yard, but the greenhouse had to be moved.

The wraparound porch and attached greenhouse are some of my favorite features of the house. I was unable to keep the family grave yard in the front of the house, but I figure Mom and Grandma would have preferred to be closer to the ocean anyway.

I didn’t want to waste any time in starting a family with David, so our wedding was set for the day after our new furniture arrived. In the background of this picture you can see that I invited some college friends and a few professors along with Dad and his wife, Marama. I was kind of sad to see that Jon wasn’t able to make it, but it was a long drive home from Tulip Bay and the reception would go way past his bed time, so he stayed home with his half sister, Lacie.

David and I were married right after the sun set over the ocean. The sound of the waves crashing in the background made a romantic moment even more perfect than I could have dreamed. Because we were on the beach, I felt that in some way Mom and Grandma were able to be there and give their blessing over the marriage.

Dad and I took the opportunity to catch up during the reception that followed. He told me all about Jon’s latest antics and how fast he’s growing. He’ll be in kindergarten before I know it! Hearing about how my little brother is growing up without me, I couldn’t help but feel a little sad to be missing all of this. I decided to ask Dad if he would consider letting me raise him. Now that I had a home and a husband and a promising career lined up, surely I was stable enough to care for a young child.

Dad looked pained at my suggestion and he quickly started listing all the reasons why Jon should stay with him. Seeing not only his concern for Jon’s welfare and how well he would adjust to yet another major change in his young life, but how desperately he wanted the chance to raise his only son, I couldn’t bear to press the issue any more. Jon would be well taken care of, just not by me.

Awww… very nice! A lovely wedding, and a gorgeous start to their family. I love your Jo… naming scheme!

Christina: Hehe, I’m having fun coming up with names for these guys. :D

Welcome Jonas! I love the house it’s beautiful.

Christina: Thanks. I went through three or four plans before I found one that fit for them.

*giggles* There’s a picture like that at my doctor’s office that his daughter painted. I wonder if she’s a simmer?

Jonas is a cutie! I feel bad for Joy that she won’t be able to raise Jon. Hopefully Vincent will let her see him a lot though.

Christina: Yeah, I think Joy was bummed about not raising Jon herself, but Vince will take good care of him. Now I just need to remember to play their lot before Joy turns into an elder. ;)

nice wedding and i love the house!
lol at his paintings, now thats funny
*waves to Jonas* welcome to the family kiddo
heh i was wondering if you’re gonna play that house to keep Jon aged along with Joy. i really like how you worked him in to this the way you have

Christina: Well, I’m not sure how closely I’ll keep him aging. My thought is that anyone living full-time in the “experiment” has been altered so they will age faster in order to let those monitoring the family to see the effects their modifications have on later generations. Anyone who leaves the house and the main experiment will be altered so that they age at a more normal rate (meaning, whenever I get back to playing the rest of the hood.) :)

What’s with them changing their hair to the braids and the “Corn rows”? :O)) It’s a very “couple-like” thing to do. Hehe. The house looks gorgeous. Are we gonna get a tour? Congrats on the birth of their son. :O)

Christina: Heh, I didn’t do that on purpose. I just didn’t like the hair David had originally, and that’s the same hair Joy has had since she was a toddler.

Hmm, I’ll try to remember to do a tour soon…

Hahaha, yay for babies! Too bad they can’t raise Jon. Hopefully he doesn’t end up crazy about Romance like Marama and Vincent! ;)

    The house looks awesome!

Christina: *sigh* I hope not. I don’t need another Romance-crazed Sim in this hood!

WOW!!! The family home looks AWESOME!! :-D I love the wrap-around porch and the attached greenhouse.

Huh. I didn’t know you could put graves on the beach like that. Kinda cool.

Joy’s gown is lovely and that wedding arch is fantastic! (Is that from Celebrations?)

I’m glad to see Vincent really wanted to raise Jon and didn’t just take him out of some sense of obligation.

Congrats on the wedding and interesting hairstyle for David there. Glad to see life is progressing so well for these two. *beams*

Uh-oh, are mom and grandma heading out for a little fun with the new man living on their property. Music soothes the savage beast … or the restless fetus. *giggles*

    Aww, welcome baby Jonas! *cheers*

Christina: I guess David just wanted to get rid of the hat hair from his gardening days. ;) Glad you like the house, too.

That house is gorgeous. I love it. Did you build it, where did you get it? Its so awesome. I wantz it. Joy had a lovely wedding, its too bad Josie wasn’t there to see it :( Welcome to Jonas. You are flying through the generations with these guys!

Christina: I’m glad you like the house. I built it from plans that I have posted on LL.

I would love a house with an attached greenhouse and haven’t tried to build one myself….

Aww.. glad Jon is being taken care of..and welcome Jonas!!

Christina: Adding a greenhouse to a house isn’t that hard, especially if the house isn’t on a foundation. You just have to make sure it has at least half of it’s walls made out of greenhouse walls and that there is a roof of some sort attached directly above it. (It doesn’t even have to be a greenhouse roof!)

I love your house! It’s so nice!

Thanks, I really like it, too. Of course, I’m really wishing I’d put it on a larger lot…
